As Fitness Enthusiasts, we spend a lot of our energy trying to hit our goals – be it the next PR or a few pounds melted off our midsection – we are always striving to improve. So why don’t we find the same energy in the kitchen?
Fitness people tend to know their way around a cook-top, and I am sure we’ve all heard that philosophical-like razor: “gains are made in the kitchen,” but often times the healthy fuel we prepare ourselves is bland, boring, repetitive, and doesn’t feed us on a mental or even emotional level.
Even the term “Fitness Meal” only seems to imply a certain macro composition. It really doesn’t matter if the food is pleasing, it only seems to matter that it models for the macros. If it does end up tasting good, well, that is only incidental.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
We are Barbell Cooks. We continually educate ourselves with the techniques and recipes to put pleasure back into fitness eating. Our Barbell Cooking teams and community are interested in what we cook, and not only how it interacts with our recovery and our goals, but also how eating can fulfill our psychological needs and strengthen us to meet our daily challenges.
For us, food is the project of physical health – yes – but here we also pay attention to how cooking can support our state of mind, furthering our contentment in our fitness, professional, and life journeys.
